The weekend of May 24th 2014 we arrived, slightly haggard, after a long couple days of traveling and found ourselves in the gorgeous location of DelFest in Cumberland, Maryland. We were thrilled to arrive to beautiful sunny weather, kind hospitality and great music as soon as we got out of the car!
We spent the weekend enjoying the company and musical vibrations of our friends who were also performing there: the California Honeydrops, the Shook Twins, Jim Lauderdale and many more wonderful people.
We enjoyed the food, waded in the river, soaked up the sun and of course rocked out to all of the amazing bands, including the Del McCoury Band, the Travelin’ McCourys, Ricky Skaggs, Bruce Hornsby, Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn, the Kruger Brothers, the Carolina Chocolate Drops and the list goes on…
The Festival has an incredibly friendly and accessible vibe with Del himself riding around in the sidecar of a motor bike, waving and smiling at everyone. The openness made room for some amazing collaborations, notably Del sitting in with String Cheese Incident and members of the California Honeydrops sitting in with the Travelin’ McCourys. We T Sisters had the pleasure of sitting in with the Honeydrops too!
We are already excited to return next year to this great festival! #DelYeah!
