This EP (extended play) contains three songs that were written and recorded during the Kindred Lines project but did not fit the album. We returned to these three songs after a year of growth as musicians and infused them with new life through the delicious stylings of some of our new musical comrades. This winter, we recorded our own a cappella version of the Grateful Dead song ‘Attics of My Life’ to add to the trio of tunes. We fell in love with this song when we were searching for the perfect contribution to our cousin’s wedding. Kindred Lines explored heartbreak and healing with a few songs delving into the sweeter sides of love.

Ready for Love embodies many of our feelings as we close our first year of full-time musicianship: excitement for changes to come; recognition of certain endings; appreciation for the play we experience in our lives; and reverence for deep, enduring love through the words of Robert Hunter.

      Ready For Love

      C. Tietjen

I’ve searched for love among the sighing winter pines
Sent prayers along the wind that I’d encounter love again

In dreams I climbed and I could reach it just fine
I’m on my way to earth again but I won’t leave love behind

Cuz I’m ready, I’m ready, I’m quaking but steady
And God knows I’m ready for love
Yes I’m ready, I’m ready, the truth is it’s heavy
And God knows I’m ready for love

My love could be a blanket or a fire cuz it burns
Though it yearns to find a spark. For now my love is only dark

It’s a poem interrupted, a jalopy tires busted
But I’ve finally learned to trust it, oh I trust it

Cuz I’m ready, I’m ready, I’m quaking but steady
And God knows I’m ready for love
Yes I’m ready, I’m ready, the truth is it’s heavy
And God knows I’m ready for love

I know things fall from their own weight but afterall
I’ve been waiting so long so help me gravity
(help me gravity, help me gravity, help me gravity)

Cuz I’m ready, I’m ready, I’m quaking but steady
And God knows I’m ready for love
Yes I’m ready, I’m ready, the truth is it’s heavy
And God knows I’m ready for love

      You'll Be Fine

      E. Tietjen

Oh oh darlin', what we gonna do
I've been cryin' on the inside but I'm beamin' through and through
I've been leavin' for a long time, couldn't live inside these blues
      Perk up darlin'
      You're gonna make it too

We've been swimmin' upstream, pulled each other down and down
And I know you didn't mean to, but you almost made me drown
Had to climb up out them waters, find a new way to be true
      Perk up darlin'
      You're gonna make it too

You're gonna find a love that lifts you up inside
Not someone just hangin' on afraid to end the ride
Now my dear my fear is gone I've laid it on the line
Oh oh oh darlin', you'll be fine

Now darlin', when we started this thing
      You treated me so nice
I felt like the luckiest girl alive
But I guess you got a little complacent about things
Stopped treating me the way that I liked
And I decided I needed a life change, one that did not include you
And I know that it's hard, breaking down this thing we built together
But I promise, you're gonna be just fine

You've been starin' at me with that old familiar smile
Used to thrill my heard to pieces, but now you ain't my style
Well this half-invested lovin' can't be what you're lookin' for
Come on darlin', let me show you to the door

You're gonna find a love that lifts you up inside
Not someone just hangin' on afraid to end the ride
Now my dear my fear is gone I've laid it on the line
Oh oh oh darlin', oh darlin', oh oh oh darlin'

      You're gonne be fine
      Darlin' you're gonna be fine
You know you're gonna be fine
      Darlin' you're gonne be fine
I know you're gonna be fine
      Darlin' you're gonna be fine
      You're gonna be fine

      Playtime

      R. Tietjen

I've gotta open up the door gotta walk outside and get in the light
I'll never be as young as I am right now so I must get out

'Cause when I'm walking outside I feel alive
And when I'm in the sunshine I know I'll survive

It's always hard to get away but there's time to play it won't rain today
Don't stop until the sun goes down when the clock's tick tockin'
it's time to go home oh it's time to go home

But when I'm walking outside I feel alive
And when I'm in the sunshine I know I'll survive

'Cause I'm alright oh I'm alright when I'm walking I'm alright
I can fly oh I can fly when I'm outside I can fly

I've gotta open up the door gotta walk outside and get in the light
I'll never be as young as I am right now so I must get out

La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la

But when I'm walking outside I feel alive
And when I'm in the sunshine I know I'll survive

'Cause I'm alright oh I'm alright when I'm walking I'm alright
I can fly oh I can fly when I'm outside I can fly

Now the day is done I walk inside and turn off the lights
      I'll call it a night….

'Cause I'm alright oh I'm alright
Now it's night and I'm alright
I can fly oh I can fly close my eyes and I can fly!

    • Lyrics

      Attics of My Life

      Robert Hunter

In the attics of my life, full of cloudy dreams unreal
Full of tastes no tongue can know, and lights no eye can see
When there was no ear to hear, you sang to me

I have spent my life seeking all that's still unsung
Bent my ear to hear the tune, and closed my eyes to see
When there were no strings to play, you played to me

In the book of love's own dream, where all the print is blood
Where all the pages are my days, and all my lights grow old
When I had no wings to fly, you flew to me, you flew to me

In the secret space of dreams, where I dreaming lay amazed
When the secrets all are told, and the petals all unfold
When there was no dream of mine, you dreamed of me
